All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by the use of colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow. The process begins with underglaze blue painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; subsequently, traditional Arita overglaze enamels are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C. Because each color requires a separate firing, a single finished piece may undergo between four and ten firings. Originating around 1675, *Somenishiki* (specifically the *Iro-Nabeshima* style) was initially created for castle furnishings and as presentation gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court. These techniques and traditions continue to be preserved to this day.
**Crane (*Tsuru*)**
Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature—symbolized by the saying "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand"—and is regarded as a bird of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity (*Jurōjin*) is said to have ridden a crane to invite the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is cherished for its elegance, and its motif appears in a wide variety of arts, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. With its gorgeous design suited for celebrations, the crane is a highly auspicious symbol representing victory, family harmony, and longevity, conveying a sense of grace and nobility.
**Blue Ocean Waves (*Seigaiha*)**
This is a geometric pattern featuring wave shapes drawn like fans and layered in an alternating arrangement. Its perfected beauty as a traditional pattern appeals to everyone, and it has frequently appeared in *Iro-Nabeshima* and *Ko-Imari* (Old Imari) wares. It is an auspicious pattern that embodies the wish for a peaceful life to continue forever, much like the ceaseless, repeating waves of the vast, boundless ocean.
