*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage firing process. It begins with underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional Arita overglaze enamels (in colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied and fired at 800°C; finally, gold accents are added to create patterns and decorative details. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.

**Kirin (Qilin)**
The *Kirin* is a mythical creature said to appear in China prior to the arrival of a sage. In ancient China, it was revered—alongside the tortoise, phoenix, and dragon—as one of the "Four Auspicious Beasts," possessing mystical power and symbolizing the preservation of peace. Its design has long been cherished and utilized across a wide range of decorative objects and furnishings; it is considered an auspicious motif that brings good fortune.

**Sho-chiku-bai (Pine, Bamboo, and Plum)**
The pine and bamboo—which retain their green foliage even amidst wind, snow, and bitter cold—and the plum blossom—which blooms earlier than other plants—are revered as symbols of longevity, nobility, and purity. The pine represents enduring vitality; the bamboo signifies steadfast integrity and nobility; and the plum is celebrated for its delicate fragrance and refined elegance. These motifs have long adorned a variety of items, including decorative objects and ceramics; they form a gorgeous pattern suitable for celebrations and are regarded as auspicious symbols of good fortune.

**Old Imari Style**
Ceramics produced in the Hizen region (modern-day Saga and Nagasaki prefectures) from the late 17th to the late 18th century were exported to Europe via the port of Imari. Consequently, these Hizen ceramics came to be known both domestically and internationally as "Imari" (or "Old Imari"), named after the port from which they were shipped. This style—characterized by deep-toned underglaze blue, the lavish use of red and gold pigments, and floral patterns that cover the entire surface of the vessel—is thought to reflect the prosperous spirit of the Genroku era. Hizen ceramics exported to Europe were prized and displayed in royal palaces and aristocratic mansions. The elegant, magnificent style that captivated 17th-century Europe remains beloved today and endures as a signature style of Arita ware.
