"Kinsai" (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style involving multiple firing stages: first, the piece is glazed and fired at 1,300°C; next, it is painted with traditional Arita colored enamels (incorporating red, green, blue, and yellow) and fired again at 800°C; finally, gold is applied to create decorative patterns. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
Mount Fuji: Standing tall on the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures, Mount Fuji is Japan's highest peak. With its summit rising far above the clouds, it serves as a symbol of Japan and a spiritual home for the Japanese people, cherished by many throughout history. Registered as a World Heritage Site in 2013, it is widely known internationally as a celebrated mountain that embodies Japan and its culture. Folding Fan (*Sensu*): The folding fan is considered auspicious because it spreads out into a fan shape, symbolizing "ever-expanding prosperity" (*suehirogari*). In Arita and Imari ware designs, fan-shaped panels (*madoe*) are frequently used to frame depictions of flowers, birds, and other subjects. It is a traditional, elegant motif that embodies the wish for happiness to endure forever.
Pine (*Matsu*): The pine tree, which retains its green foliage even while enduring harsh winds, snow, and bitter cold, is revered as a symbol of longevity. Long admired for its dignified presence, the pine tree frequently appears as a motif in Iro-Nabeshima and Ko-Imari ceramics. Evoking a sense of nobility, the pine is a traditional auspicious pattern—often associated with the saying "cranes live a thousand years, and tortoises ten thousand"—that remains highly popular today.
Cranes, like tortoises, have long been revered as auspicious creatures; known as birds of longevity, they are celebrated in the proverb "cranes live a thousand years, and tortoises ten thousand." In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity, Shou-lao, is said to have ridden a crane to summon the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is cherished for its elegance, and its image is incorporated into a wide array of crafts, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. It is a magnificent pattern suited for celebrations, symbolizing military victory, family harmony, and longevity; it is a truly auspicious design that conveys both grace and nobility.
