"Kinsai" (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style involving multiple firing stages: first, the piece is glazed and fired at 1,300°C; next, it is painted with traditional Arita colored enamels (such as red, green, blue, and yellow) and fired again at 800°C; finally, gold is applied to create decorative patterns. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
Cranes: Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature—symbolized by the saying "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand"—and is considered a bird of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity (Shou-lao-ren) is said to have ridden a crane to summon the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is cherished for its elegance, and its image frequently appears in designs ranging from *maki-e* lacquerware to ceramics.
