This piece is a masterpiece of ceramic art, created by a potter who poured his entire focus into the brushwork while shaping the clay on the wheel—a process underpinned by the long history and tradition of Arita ware. It is a magnificent work that allows you to experience the splendor of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and is suitable for display in various settings, such as a *tokonoma* (alcove), entryway, reception room, or living room. We invite you to add this valuable piece to your art collection. It is also highly appreciated as a gift for any occasion—whether personal, corporate, or commemorative—and is frequently chosen as a prestigious presentation gift for distinguished guests from around the world.
"Kinsai" (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style. The process begins with underglaze painting followed by firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional colored enamels are applied and fired at 800°C. Finally, gold is used to add decorative patterns over these colors (such as red, green, blue, and yellow). Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation process involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a gorgeous, dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
This work utilizes a distinctive green glaze known as *Ryokusai-yu*. Unlike painted pigments, the green hue—derived from copper oxide within the glaze—possesses a rich, profound character. Furthermore, the glaze underwent "kiln transformation" (*yohen*) during the reduction firing process, creating unique variations in the glaze's flow and color—a "beauty born of chance" for the viewer to enjoy.
Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak, towers over the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. With its summit rising far above the clouds, it serves as a symbol of Japan and has long been cherished by the Japanese people as a spiritual home. Registered as a World Heritage site in 2013, it is widely recognized internationally as a magnificent mountain that embodies Japan and its culture. This is an auspicious pattern—evoking the very image of Japan itself—that is cherished as a symbol of good fortune and a harbinger of luck and prosperity.
**Crane**
Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature; the saying "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand" reflects its status as a symbol of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity Jurōjin is said to have ridden a crane to summon the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is beloved for its elegance, and its motif appears in a wide variety of forms, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. It is a magnificent pattern suited for celebrations, symbolizing military victory, family harmony, and longevity; it is an auspicious design that conveys both grace and nobility.
**Pine**
The pine tree, which retains its greenery even while enduring harsh winds, snow, and bitter cold, is considered a symbol of longevity. Its dignified appearance has long been admired, and it frequently appears as a motif in Iro-Nabeshima and Ko-Imari ceramics. Exuding an air of nobility, the pine is a traditional, auspicious pattern that invites good fortune and remains highly popular to this day.
