All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
"Kinsai" (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage process: underglaze blue painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; applying traditional Arita overglaze enamels (red, green, blue, yellow, etc.) and firing at 800°C; and finally adding gold patterns for decoration. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation process involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
This piece utilizes a unique red glaze known as *shinsha* (copper-red glaze). Unlike painted pigments, the red hue—derived from copper within the glaze—possesses a rich, profound depth. Furthermore, the *shinsha* glaze undergoes "kiln transformation" (*yohen*) during the reduction firing process, creating variations in the glaze's flow and color that allow the viewer to appreciate a "beauty born of chance."
**Mount Fuji**
Mount Fuji, Japan's highest peak, towers over the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. With its summit rising far above the clouds, it serves as a symbol of Japan and a spiritual home for the Japanese people, cherished by many throughout history. Registered as a World Heritage site in 2013, it is widely known internationally as a celebrated mountain that embodies Japan and its culture. It is regarded as a highly revered and auspicious symbol—a harbinger of good fortune and luck—and serves as an auspicious motif that evokes the very image of Japan.
**Cranes**
Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature; the saying "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand" reflects its status as a symbol of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity (*Jurojin*) is said to have ridden a crane to invite the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the elegant crane is deeply loved, and its image appears in a wide variety of art forms, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. As a gorgeous motif suited for celebrations, the crane symbolizes military victory, family harmony, and longevity; it is an auspicious design that conveys grace and nobility. Pine
The pine tree, which retains its green foliage even while enduring harsh winds, snow, and bitter cold, is regarded as a symbol of longevity. Its dignified appearance has long been admired, and it frequently appears as a motif in Iro-Nabeshima and Ko-Imari ceramics. Exuding an air of nobility, the pine is a traditional, auspicious pattern believed to attract good fortune—a design that remains highly popular to this day.
