This piece depicts the majestic Mount Fuji, featuring a deep red hue created by a copper-based glaze known as *shinsha* (cinnabar red). This distinctive red color emerges from the kiln's flames and the reduction firing process; subtle fluctuations in temperature and airflow during firing cause the glaze to shift, resulting in a unique appearance—no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The surface, fired amidst the kiln's flames, reveals the nuanced beauty of *yōhen* (kiln-transformation effects)—such as glaze runs and delicate gradations of color—embodying a beauty unique to ceramics born from the interplay of chance and artisan craftsmanship.
The central image of Mount Fuji—a mountain revered since ancient times as a symbol of Japan and an emblem of good fortune—represents prosperity and the promise of a bright future.
