All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by the incorporation of colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow. The process begins with underglaze blue painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; subsequently, traditional Arita overglaze enamels are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves between four and ten separate firings. Originating around 1675, *Somenishiki* (specifically the *Iro-Nabeshima* style) was initially produced for castle furnishings and as presentation gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court. These techniques and traditions continue to be passed down to the present day.
**Crane**
Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature—embodying the proverb "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand"—and is celebrated as a symbol of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity (Shou-lao-ren) is said to have ridden a crane to summon the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is cherished for its elegance, and its motif appears in a wide variety of forms, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. It is a magnificent, auspicious pattern suitable for celebrations, symbolizing military victory, domestic harmony, and longevity, while conveying a sense of grace and nobility.
**Pine, Bamboo, and Plum (*Sho-chiku-bai*)**
The pine and bamboo—which retain their green foliage even amidst wind, snow, and bitter cold—and the plum—which blooms earlier than other plants—are revered as symbols of longevity, integrity, and purity. The pine represents enduring vitality; the bamboo signifies steadfastness and moral integrity; and the plum is celebrated for its delicate fragrance and refined elegance.
