All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by the use of colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow. The process involves applying underglaze blue decoration and firing the piece at 1,300°C, followed by painting with traditional Arita overglaze enamels and firing again at 800°C. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work requires between four and ten separate firings. Originating around 1675, *Somenishiki* (specifically the *Iro-Nabeshima* style) was initially produced for castle furnishings and as presentation gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court; these techniques and traditions have been preserved to the present day.
**Crane**
Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature—embodying the proverb "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand"—and is celebrated as a symbol of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity (*Shurojin*) is said to have ridden a crane to summon the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is cherished for its elegance, and its image appears in a wide variety of art forms, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. With its magnificent appearance, the crane motif is considered highly auspicious, symbolizing military victory, domestic harmony, and longevity; it conveys a sense of grace and nobility.
**Pine**
The pine tree, which retains its green foliage even while enduring harsh winds, snow, and bitter cold, is a symbol of longevity. Its dignified presence has long been admired, and it frequently appears as a motif in *Iro-Nabeshima* and *Ko-Imari* (Old Imari) wares. Evoking an air of nobility, the pine is a classic, celebratory motif believed to attract good fortune, and it remains highly popular today.
