This decorative plate features a sophisticated platinum-leaf design set against a backdrop of deep, serene black Tenmoku glaze. A bold wave pattern sweeps across the background, over which a koi carp swims with majestic grace. The motifs of the waves and the koi are rendered in relief; the interplay of light and shadow creates a sense of profound depth and rich character. The harmony between stillness and motion evokes a fleeting moment of nature captured upon the water's surface.
"Tenmoku" refers to a type of black glaze originating from Mount Tianmu in China, introduced to Japan by Zen monks during the Kamakura period.
