All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
"Somenishiki Platinum-iro" (Underglaze-painted Brocade with Platinum Accents) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying platinum decoration over white porcelain that has already been fired at 1,300°C, followed by a final firing at 800°C to bond the platinum. The process requires firing the piece after the application of each individual color—totaling six to ten firings—before the platinum is finally fired on. The platinum applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow; its luster shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, ensuring a constant, radiant sparkle. It is a luxurious style that fuses the traditions of Arita ware with a modern sensibility.
"Tenmoku" refers to a type of black glaze.
The name originates from tea bowls used at temples on Mount Tianmu (Tenmoku-san) in Zhejiang Province, China. Japanese Zen monks visiting China during the Kamakura period brought these bowls back home, and they eventually came to be known in Japan as "Tenmoku" after the mountain.
While eschewing ostentatious beauty, Tenmoku ware evokes a profound, mysterious world of deep black tones, making it one of the most highly prized forms of pottery in the world of the tea ceremony.
Cranes
Along with the tortoise, the crane has long been revered as an auspicious creature—symbolized by the saying "cranes live a thousand years, tortoises ten thousand"—and is regarded as a bird of longevity. In Chinese legend, the deity of longevity (Jurojin) is said to have ridden a crane to summon the Eight Immortals. In Japan, too, the crane is cherished for its elegance, and its motif appears in a wide variety of art forms, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. It is a splendid pattern suited for celebrations and considered highly auspicious, symbolizing military victory, family harmony, and longevity, while conveying a sense of grace and nobility.
