All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
"Somenishiki Platinum-Irodori" is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying platinum accents to white porcelain that has already been fired at 1,300°C, followed by a subsequent firing at 800°C to bond the platinum to the surface. The process requires firing the piece after the application of each individual color—totaling six to ten firings—before the final platinum firing. The platinum applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow; its luster shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, ensuring a constant, radiant gleam. It is a luxurious style that fuses the traditions of Arita ware with a modern sensibility.
"Tenmoku" refers to a type of black glaze.
The name originates from the tea bowls used in temples on Mount Tianmu (Tenmoku-san) in Zhejiang Province, China. Japanese Zen monks visiting China during the Kamakura period brought these bowls back home, and they eventually came to be known in Japan as "Tenmoku" after the mountain itself.
With an understated beauty that eschews ostentation, Tenmoku evokes a profound, mysterious world of deep black; it is highly prized within the realm of the tea ceremony.
Carp
In China, there is a legend that a carp ascending the "Dragon Gate" waterfall in the rapids of the Yellow River transforms into a dragon; consequently, the carp is revered as a symbol of great strides and career advancement. This concept spread to Japan, and by the end of the Edo period, the custom of flying *koinobori* (carp streamers) during the Tango no Sekku festival emerged, expressing wishes for children's healthy growth and future success. Carp motifs have long been cherished and utilized across a wide range of art forms, including *maki-e* lacquerware and ceramics. With its noble beauty, the carp is a highly auspicious and popular design.
