*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage creation process. It begins with underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional Arita overglaze enamels (in colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied and fired at 800°C; finally, gold accents are added to create intricate patterns. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the entire process involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.
**Carp**
In China, legend holds that a carp capable of ascending the "Dragon Gate" waterfall—located in the turbulent rapids of the Yellow River—transforms into a dragon; consequently, the carp is revered as a symbol of great leaps forward and career success. This concept spread to Japan, and by the late Edo period, it became customary to fly *koinobori* (carp streamers) during the Tango no Sekku festival to pray for children's healthy growth and future success. Carp motifs have long been cherished and utilized across a wide range of artistic mediums, including *makie* lacquerware and ceramics. With its noble beauty, the carp is a highly auspicious and popular design motif.
