The treasure of the highest quality
This piece is created using a unique technique known as *yūrisai* (underglaze polychrome), which allows vibrant colors to shine through a transparent glaze, resulting in a flawless, radiant porcelain surface. The work employs subtle tonal shifts and a distinctive "soft-focus" (*bokashi*) technique; rather than using sharp outlines, the artist renders the subject and its shading by modulating the intensity of the colors themselves, creating a gentle, diffused effect. The entire piece—including the base—is meticulously hand-painted, combining the lustrous porcelain surface with matte gold accents; its completion represents a triumph of refined skill, demanding immense time and effort. The contrast between the deep, luminous sheen of the porcelain and the matte gold creates an exquisite elegance and a commanding presence. It is a masterpiece highly prized as a gift for visiting dignitaries from around the world.
Since ancient times, the crane has been revered as a symbol of longevity—often described as living for a thousand years—and as an auspicious motif representing marital harmony and prosperity. Similarly, the "pine, bamboo, and plum" trio embodies wishes for longevity, nobility, and purity, reflecting their ability to thrive beautifully even amidst harsh natural conditions. The harmonious layering of these motifs elevates this piece into a distinguished work of art and craftsmanship, rich in celebratory spirit and profound symbolism.
Due to the extraordinary time and labor required, only about ten pieces in this *yūrisai* and *kinrande* (gold-brocade style) are produced annually, making each one a rare, unique work of the highest quality.
The gold decoration follows the *yūri-kinsai* (underglaze gold) technique, in which the gold is covered with a thin layer of transparent glaze before firing; this ensures the gold will not peel, fade, or discolor over time.
While we invite you to admire the deep luster of the underglaze colors and the intricate gold-brocade patterns, please note that the linework is exceptionally fine and delicate. Due to the complexity of the painting and the nature of light reflection, some details may not be fully captured in the photographs. Additionally, please understand that the actual colors may appear slightly different depending on your computer monitor settings.
