Lucky Cat 福まねき猫 - Tanabata 七夕
Japanese Tradition Cotton Towel (The dyed Tenugui)
Tanabata 七夕 is part of the Obon festival,
and because the spirit altar and its banner are placed on the evening of the 7th,
it is said that the name "Tanabata" (七夕) comes from the fact that it is written as "7th evening."
On this night, the stars Altair and Vega, located at opposite ends of the Milky Way,
are said to meet once a year.
It is believed that if a woman prays to these stars for improvement in her arts and skills,
her wish will be granted,
and therefore, from the Nara period onward, a star festival was held in aristocratic society.
