Posted by Masaru Kikuchi at

This time, our team created a custom-designed tenugui for a kendo enthusiast in Mexico.

Here is the custom designed tenugui.

It looks very nice design.

We love it.

"I am pleased that our team was able to share the true Japanese Bushido spirit with the Mexican swordsmen."

The above customer's design has been turned into the following piece:

Below are some comments and photos sent by our customers.

This is the letter the customer wrote to us explaining the meaning of the design for this tenugui.

Our team really liked this design and are very happy that we were able to create it.

All of us involved in its production are also very happy that it is being enjoyed by Mexican swordsmen.

"I've attached the design history of the tenugui and more photos that I hope you'll find useful for posting on your site if you wish.

According to a myth from Mexican history, after wandering for many years, the Mexica people arrived at Lake Texcoco in 1325, located in the Valley of Mexico. Their hummingbird god of war, Huitzilopochtli, had promised them that they would find an eagle perched on a cactus, a warrior born from the heart on an islet, and that there they should build a city from which they would rule over other peoples.

The eagle rises on a cactus that grows from the remains of the warrior and is surrounded by the shape that represents an islet, the four cardinal points and the guard of a sword (tsuba) alluding to the practice of kendo that has existed in the city for about 50 years.

The color red was chosen to represent the color of the prickly pear fruit, which is believed to symbolize the heart and blood of warriors.

We thank Wakonteam for their great effort and dedication in creating this awesome tenugui design to celebrate our city and the practice of Kendo in our country.

I hope this information is helpful."
