*Kinsai* (Gold Decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage creation process. It begins with underglaze blue painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C. Next, traditional Arita overglaze enamels—featuring colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow—are applied and fired at 800°C. Finally, gold accents are added to create intricate patterns and decorations. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, a single finished work may undergo five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.

**Old Imari Style**
Ceramics produced in the Hizen region (modern-day Saga and Nagasaki prefectures) from the late 17th to the late 18th century were exported to Europe via the port of Imari. Consequently, these ceramics came to be known both domestically and internationally as "Imari ware" (or "Old Imari") after the port from which they were shipped. This style—characterized by deep blue underglaze tones, lavish use of red and gold enamels, and floral patterns that richly cover the vessel's surface—is thought to reflect the prosperous spirit of the Genroku era. Hizen ceramics exported to Europe were highly prized, adorning the palaces of royalty and the mansions of the aristocracy. The graceful, magnificent style that captivated 17th-century Europe remains beloved today, standing as a quintessential style of Arita ware that has been passed down to the present.

**Cherry Blossoms (Sakura)**
Cherry blossoms are so deeply cherished that they are synonymous with Japanese flowers and serve as the national flower of Japan. Their magnificent appearance has long inspired designs across a wide range of art forms, including paintings and traditional crafts. Whether in full, glorious bloom or with petals fluttering gently to the ground, the cherry blossom is a highly popular motif that evokes a festive and elegant atmosphere. Peony (Botan)
With their magnificent, large blossoms and noble bearing, peonies have long been known in China as the "King of Flowers" and revered as a symbol of wealth and honor. In Japan, too, the breathtaking beauty of the peony has inspired its use in a wide array of designs, from paintings to traditional crafts. It is an auspicious motif that conveys a sense of elegant grace amidst its splendor.

Chrysanthemum (Kiku)
The chrysanthemum serves as the emblem of the Imperial Family. Prized for its exquisite shape, color, and fragrance, it frequently appears in works of Old Imari and Irodori-Nabeshima (colored Nabeshima) ware. Along with the orchid, plum blossom, and bamboo, it is one of the "Four Gentlemen" (Shikunshi)—a group of plants deeply cherished as auspicious motifs.

Arabesque (Karakusa)
The *karakusa* (arabesque) pattern depicts the intertwining vines of a plant. Arita ware features a wide variety of these patterns, ranging from combinations of vines with flowers, leaves, or fruit—such as chrysanthemum, peony, or paulownia arabesques—to the distinctive *tako-karakusa* (octopus arabesque), named for its resemblance to the suction cups on an octopus's tentacles. As a perfected traditional design, it is universally admired and appears extensively on Arita and Imari ware. Because the vines extend endlessly in all directions, the arabesque is considered an auspicious motif symbolizing longevity and prosperity.
