"Somenishiki-Kogane" (Dyed-Brocade Gold) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying gold accents over white porcelain—which has already been fired at 1,300°C—and then firing the piece again at 800°C to bond the gold. The process requires repeated firings—typically six to ten times—with each firing corresponding to the application of a specific color, followed by a final firing for the gold. The gold applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow. The luster of the gold shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, resulting in a magnificent, opulent style that commands a powerful presence.
Orchid (Ran)
The orchid is a flower prized for its nobility, longevity, and delicate fragrance. Its refined elegance has long been admired, making it a frequent motif in Arita and Imari ware. Along with the chrysanthemum, plum blossom, and bamboo, it is one of the "Four Gentlemen" (Shikunshi)—an auspicious pattern deeply cherished in traditional art.
