"Somenishiki-Kogan" (Dyed Brocade and Gold) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying gold accents over white porcelain that has already been fired at 1,300°C, followed by a final firing at 800°C to bond the gold. The process requires firing the piece after the application of each individual color—repeating this six to ten times—before the gold is finally fired. The gold applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow; the luster shifts depending on the angle of the light or the viewer's perspective, resulting in a magnificent, opulent style that commands a powerful presence.
**Swallow (Tsubame)**
Swallows are familiar birds, often known for building their nests under the eaves of houses. It is said that a swallow nesting at one's home brings prosperity and good fortune; consequently, the swallow motif has long been cherished and utilized in a wide variety of arts, including *makie* (gold lacquerware) and ceramics. With their charming appearance and modern aesthetic, swallows remain a highly popular auspicious motif.
**Wisteria (Fuji)**
Wisteria is a tree that grows wild in the mountains and fields, producing beautiful blossoms. It frequently appears in classical literature and—having been adopted as the surname and family crest of the Fujiwara clan during the Heian period—has deeply influenced Japanese culture. Its graceful floral form has long been admired and frequently depicted on ceramics, *makie*, and lacquerware. The elegant and refined wisteria remains a highly popular motif to this day.
