*Kinsai* (Gold Decoration) is a traditional Arita-yaki style characterized by a multi-stage firing process. It begins with underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional Arita-yaki colored enamels (such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied and fired at 800°C; finally, gold is used to add decorative patterns. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent and dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.
**Folding Fan (*Ougi* / *Sensu*)**
Folding fans are considered auspicious because they spread out into a fan shape, symbolizing ever-expanding prosperity (*suehirogari*). In Arita-yaki and Imari-yaki ceramics, fan-shaped panels (*madoe*) are frequently used as frames for depicting motifs such as flowers and birds. It is a traditional auspicious pattern that embodies a wish for enduring happiness.
**Seigaiha (Blue Ocean Waves)**
This is a geometric pattern consisting of wave motifs drawn in a fan-like shape and layered in an alternating arrangement. Its perfected beauty as a traditional pattern has made it universally popular, and it frequently appears in *Iro-Nabeshima* and *Ko-Imari* (Old Imari) wares. It is an auspicious pattern that embodies a wish for a peaceful life to continue forever, much like the ceaseless waves of the vast, unending ocean.
