This decorative plate is meticulously crafted—from the initial wheel-throwing to the final hand-painting—using the authentic techniques backed by the long history and tradition of Arita ware. It features the *Seigaiha* (blue ocean wave) pattern, rendered in a clear, limpid blue underglaze; this motif, depicting waves that ripple endlessly, is a traditional Japanese symbol of good fortune representing a wish for eternal peace and prosperity, evoking a sense of serene, profound beauty in the viewer.
Overlaid upon this background is a powerful depiction of a sea bream (*tai*), executed using the vibrant red overglaze and gold accents characteristic of Arita ware. Since ancient times, the sea bream has been a symbol of auspiciousness—its name sharing a phonetic connection with the Japanese word for celebration (*medetai*)—making it a cherished motif for festive occasions and gifts. The pure blue of the underglaze harmonizes exquisitely with the dignified red and gold tones, creating a piece of exceptional presence that embodies both elegance and splendor.
Whether displayed in a *tokonoma* (alcove), entryway, reception room, or living area, this masterpiece shines beautifully in both Japanese and Western-style interiors, allowing you to fully appreciate the depth and aesthetic sensibility of Japanese traditional craftsmanship. Thanks to its refined design and auspicious symbolism, it is also highly prized as a gift for international recipients and is esteemed as a work of art that conveys the allure of Japanese culture.
We invite you to add this piece—a crystallization of the artist's sensibility and the time-honored techniques of Arita ware—to your art collection.
