"Somenishiki Platinum-iro" (Underglaze-style Brocade with Platinum Accents) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying platinum decoration onto white porcelain that has already been fired at 1,300°C, followed by a subsequent firing at 800°C to bond the platinum. The process requires firing the piece after the application of each individual color—typically six to ten times in total—before the final platinum firing. The platinum bonded to the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow; its luster shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, ensuring a constant, radiant sparkle. It is a luxurious style that fuses the traditions of Arita ware with a modern sensibility.

"Yūrikō" (Underglaze Red) is a technique that utilizes copper-based pigments for underglaze painting. By harnessing oxidation-reduction reactions during firing, a red hue is produced beneath a transparent glaze. While the origins of *yūrikō* date back to the late Yuan Dynasty in China (14th century), its production in Hizen porcelain occurred during the Early Imari period (1610–1650). However, the technique subsequently fell into decline due to the difficulty of the firing process and the instability of the resulting colors. If the firing temperature rises too high, the color fails to develop, leaving the piece stark white; conversely, firing in an oxidizing atmosphere results in a green hue. The outcome is heavily influenced by the nature of the flames, and even slight temperature variations can produce drastically different colors. Achieving consistent results is notoriously difficult—a challenge so great that, in the past, countless pieces were lost as waste when the kiln was opened.

Peony (Botan)
With its magnificent, large blossoms and noble bearing, the peony has long been known in China as the "King of Flowers" and a symbol of wealth and honor. In Japan, too, the peony's spectacular beauty has made it a popular motif in a wide range of art forms, including paintings and decorative crafts. It is considered an auspicious pattern that conveys a sense of elegant gentleness amidst its splendor.
