"Somenishiki Platinum-iro" (Underglaze-style polychrome with platinum accents) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying platinum decoration over white porcelain that has already been fired at 1,300°C, followed by a final firing at 800°C to bond the platinum. The piece undergoes multiple firings—typically six to ten rounds—as each individual color is applied, with the platinum firing performed last. The platinum applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow; its luster shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, ensuring a constant, radiant sparkle. This luxurious style harmoniously blends the traditions of Arita ware with a modern aesthetic.
Wisteria (Fuji)
The wisteria is a tree that grows wild in the mountains and fields, producing beautiful blossoms. It is a plant that has influenced Japanese culture, appearing frequently in classical literature and serving as the basis for the surname and family crest of the Fujiwara clan during the Heian period. Long admired for its graceful appearance, the wisteria has frequently been depicted in ceramics, *maki-e* (sprinkled gold lacquer), and other lacquerware. With its elegance and refinement, the wisteria remains a highly popular motif to this day.
