All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* (or *Iro-Nabeshima*) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-step process: underglaze blue painting is fired at 1,300°C, followed by the application of traditional colored enamels and a second firing at 800°C to incorporate hues such as red, green, blue, and yellow. Because each color requires a separate firing, a single piece may undergo between four and ten firings before completion. Originating around 1675, this style was initially created for castle furnishings and as tribute gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court; these techniques and traditions are still preserved today.
**Gourd (*Hyotan*)**
The image of six gourds (*mu-byo*) is a homophone for "freedom from illness" (*mu-byo*). Gourds also feature in the idiom "a horse from a gourd" (*hyotan kara koma*), referring to an unexpected turn of events where a joke or casual remark becomes reality. Cherished for their unique, constricted shape and auspicious nature, gourds are frequently depicted in Arita and Imari ware. They serve as a traditional, auspicious motif symbolizing good health, longevity, and family harmony.
**Blue Ocean Waves (*Seigaiha*)**
This is a geometric pattern featuring fan-shaped waves layered in an alternating arrangement. Admired by all for its perfected beauty as a traditional design, it frequently appears on *Iro-Nabeshima* and *Ko-Imari* (Old Imari) wares. It is an auspicious motif embodying the wish for a peaceful life to continue eternally, much like the ceaseless waves of the vast, boundless ocean.
