therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* (literally "dyed and brocaded") is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by the incorporation of colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow. The process begins with underglaze blue painting, followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; subsequently, traditional Arita overglaze enamels are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C. Because a separate firing is required for each color applied, the creation of a single piece involves between four and ten firing cycles. *Somenishiki*—specifically the *Iro-Nabeshima* (Colored Nabeshima) style—originated around 1675; these pieces were initially produced as furnishings for the castle and as gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court. These techniques and traditions continue to be passed down to the present day.
**The *Iro-Nabeshima* Style**
Wares intended for gifts or personal use by the Nabeshima family of Saga were produced at the domain's official kiln. Pieces created at this kiln are known simply as "Nabeshima" and are highly acclaimed worldwide. As they were commissioned as gifts, the resulting products were distinguished by their exceptional quality and dignified aesthetic. The official kiln was originally established at Iwataya-gawachi (Arita) during the Kan'ei era (1624–1644), relocated to Minami-gawara (Arita) during the Kanbun era (1661–1673), and is believed to have moved to Okawachi (Imari City) during the Enpō era (1673–1680). While "Nabeshima" ware includes celadon and underglaze blue pieces, those featuring overglaze enamel colors are specifically referred to as "*Iro-Nabeshima*" (Colored Nabeshima). The decoration of *Iro-Nabeshima* is based on a palette of four colors: the blue of the underglaze and the red, green, and yellow of the overglaze enamels. The Nabeshima style lives on today as a decorative technique in modern Arita ware.
**Clematis (*Tessen*)**
The Japanese name *Tessen* (literally "iron wire") refers to the plant's vines, which are as strong as iron wire. Prized since ancient times for its graceful appearance, the clematis has frequently been depicted on Arita and Imari ware. With its charming and lovely aesthetic, the clematis remains a highly popular motif in modern times.
