This Arita-yaki teacup features a design of the "Three Friends of Winter"—pine, bamboo, and plum—painted in underglaze blue (*sometsuke*) against a backdrop of *isubai-yu* (Japanese oak ash glaze), which exudes a refined, rustic charm. The pine, bamboo, and plum motif is a quintessential Japanese symbol of good fortune: the pine retains its green hue amidst harsh winds and snow; the bamboo grows straight and tall, marked by its resilient nodes; and the plum is the first to bloom in the cold.
