All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by the incorporation of colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow. The process begins with underglaze painting followed by firing at 1,300°C; subsequently, traditional Arita overglaze enamels are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C. Because each color requires a separate firing stage, the creation of a single piece involves anywhere from four to ten firings. *Somenishiki* (specifically the *Iro-Nabeshima* style) originated around 1675, initially produced for castle furnishings and as presentation gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court. These techniques and traditions continue to be preserved to this day.
Butterflies
In Japanese, the word for "butterfly" (*chō*) shares the same pronunciation as the word for "longevity" (*chō*), imbuing the insect with that auspicious meaning. Butterflies are also regarded as symbols of beauty—admired for the exquisite shapes and colors of their wings, as well as the elegance of their growth and flight—and have long been featured in the decorative motifs of paintings and crafts. In Arita ware, butterflies are frequently paired with flowers to create vibrant, ornate designs.
