"Somenishiki-Kogane" (Dyed-Brocade Gold) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying gold accents over white porcelain—which has already been fired at 1,300°C—and then firing the piece again at 800°C to bond the gold. The process requires firing the piece after the application of each individual color, typically involving six to ten firing cycles before the final gold-firing stage. The gold applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow. The luster of the gold shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, resulting in a magnificent, opulent style that commands a powerful presence.
Hydrangea (*Ajisai*)
The hydrangea is a flower native to Japan that grows in dense clusters from the base; its blossoms change color—ranging from purple and white to blue and pink—depending on soil conditions. Its radiant beauty has been celebrated in poetry since the *Man'yōshū* era, and the flower has long served as a decorative motif in traditional arts such as Old Imari ware and *maki-e* lacquerware. With its clusters of four-petaled blossoms, the hydrangea evokes a rich sense of atmosphere and remains a highly popular design motif.
