"Somenishiki-Kogane" (Underglaze Blue & Overglaze Enamel with Gold) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying gold accents to white porcelain—previously fired at 1,300°C—and then firing it again at 800°C to bond the gold. The piece undergoes multiple firings (six to ten times in total), with a new firing after the application of each color, before the gold is finally fired. The gold applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow. The luster of the gold shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, resulting in a magnificent, opulent style that commands a powerful presence.
"Somenishiki-Platinum" (Underglaze Blue & Overglaze Enamel with Platinum) is another unique technique by Kinsai Fujii, utilizing platinum instead of gold. Similar to the gold technique, the piece is fired repeatedly—six to ten times—after the application of each color, with the platinum fired last. The platinum applied to the surface creates subtle shading effects. Its luster changes with the angle of light and the viewer's position, maintaining a constant, brilliant shine. It is a luxurious style that fuses the traditions of Arita ware with a modern sensibility.
