The cherry blossom is so beloved that it is synonymous with Japanese flowers and serves as the nation's floral emblem. Its magnificent appearance has long inspired designs across a wide range of art forms, including paintings and traditional crafts. The motif—depicting cherry blossoms in full bloom with petals gently fluttering down—is highly popular for the festive, elegant atmosphere it evokes.
"Somenishiki-Kogane" (Dyed Brocade with Gold) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying gold accents over white porcelain—which has already been fired at 1,300°C—and then firing the piece again at 800°C to bond the gold. The process requires repeated firings—six to ten times in total—as each color is applied individually, with the gold firing performed as the final step. The gold applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow. The luster of the gold shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, resulting in a magnificent, opulent style that commands a powerful presence.
