"Somenishiki-Kogane" (Dyed Brocade and Gold) is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying gold accents to white porcelain—which has already been fired at 1,300°C—and then firing it again at 800°C to fuse the gold to the surface. The piece undergoes multiple firings—typically six to ten rounds—as each color is applied individually, with the gold firing performed as the final step. The gold fused across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow. The luster of the gold shifts depending on the angle of the light or the viewer's perspective, resulting in a magnificent, opulent style that commands a powerful presence.
Pomegranate
The pomegranate contains numerous small segments, each holding its own tiny seed. Because of this structure, it is considered an auspicious fruit symbolizing abundance and the prosperity of one's descendants, often referred to as an "auspicious fruit" (*kisshōka*). Valued since ancient times for its elegance and auspicious nature, the pomegranate has frequently been depicted in Arita and Imari ware. With its graceful and refined appearance, the pomegranate remains a highly popular auspicious motif to this day.
