All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by the use of colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow. The process begins with underglaze painting followed by firing at 1,300°C; subsequently, traditional Arita overglaze enamels are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C. Because the piece is fired after the application of each individual color, the creation of a single work involves anywhere from four to ten separate firings. The *Somenishiki* style (including *Iro-Nabeshima*) originated around 1675, initially produced for castle furnishings and as presentation gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court. These techniques and traditions continue to be preserved to this day.
Hydrangea (*Ajisai*)
The hydrangea is a flower native to Japan that grows in dense clusters from the base; its blossoms shift in color—ranging from purple and white to blue and pink—depending on soil conditions. Its radiant beauty has been celebrated in the *Man'yōshū* (Japan's oldest anthology of poetry), and the flower is frequently used as a decorative motif in arts such as Old Imari ware and *makie* lacquerware. With its blossoms formed by clusters of four-petaled flowers, the hydrangea is a highly popular motif, cherished for the evocative, atmospheric charm it conveys.
