Ceramic artist Kinsai Fujii, a bearer of the Arita-yaki tradition, creates vessels designed to harmonize with the user's lifestyle. While he excels in the gorgeous *nishiki-e* (polychrome) styles characteristic of historic Ko-Imari and Iro-Nabeshima wares, he remains grounded in the belief that "everyday tableware represents the true essence of ceramics." Each piece is meticulously crafted by hand—incorporating hand-painted details—with a focus on the "beauty of utility," creating items that one naturally reaches for at the daily dining table.

This *yunomi* (tea cup) features a chestnut motif painted using *sometsuke* (underglaze blue) and traditional Arita pigments, set against the soft, rustic texture of *isubai-yu* (Japanese evergreen oak ash glaze). The design draws inspiration from *kachiguri*—dried chestnuts that have been pounded to remove their shells and astringent skins. Because the word *kachi* (meaning "to pound") is a homophone for *kachi* (meaning "to win" or "victory"), this motif has long been cherished as an auspicious symbol of good fortune. This design, symbolizing bountiful harvests and victory, embodies a subtle, heartfelt wish within an everyday object, reflecting the understated elegance characteristic of Japanese tableware culture.

A distinctive feature of the *isubai-yu* glaze is how its appearance shifts slightly during firing, causing the outlines of the underglaze blue painting to softly bleed. This prevents the pattern from appearing overly sharp, creating a gentle, serene impression that fosters a deeper attachment the more the cup is used. The interplay between the glaze's natural variations and the unique character of the hand-painted art ensures that every piece possesses a one-of-a-kind charm.

Designed for comfort and longevity, the cup features a shape that fits naturally in the hand and a well-balanced weight, making it ideal for daily use. It avoids excessive ostentation, offering a refined presence that breathes life into the Arita-yaki tradition and the artist's vision. It is a vessel that quietly enriches everyday moments and grows closer to the heart with every use.
