Kinsai Fujii creates works that honor the long history and traditions of Arita—the birthplace of Japanese porcelain—drawing upon techniques such as Old Imari and Iro-Nabeshima, while specializing in particularly vibrant *nishiki-e* (polychrome) styles. Guided by the belief that the true value of ceramics shines brightest in everyday life, he crafts Japanese tableware centered on the concept of "beauty in utility," designed to harmonize with the user's lifestyle. This teacup was created to offer the warmth unique to handmade, hand-painted pottery—a vessel that fosters a deeper attachment the longer it is used.

This piece features an *isubi-bai* (oak ash) glaze, which provides a soft, rustic backdrop for a *karakusa* (arabesque) pattern painted using traditional Arita pigments and *sometsuke* (underglaze blue) techniques. The *karakusa* pattern, depicting the unbroken, spreading growth of vines, has long been cherished as an auspicious motif symbolizing longevity and prosperity. It is a signature design in Arita and Imari ware, beloved by generations for its timeless appeal.

A characteristic of the oak ash glaze is that it causes the outlines of the underglaze blue painting to bleed slightly during firing, creating a soft, gentle fluidity in the lines. This natural blurring lends a serene expression to the vessel, evoking the calm, distinctive charm of handcrafted art. While understated rather than flashy, the design offers a rich, evocative aesthetic that adds a quiet elegance to the daily dining table.

With a shape that fits comfortably in the hand and a pleasing weight, this cup makes daily tea time delightful and grows more appealing with continued use. Combining auspicious traditional motifs, the superb craftsmanship of Arita ware, and practical usability, it is an excellent choice for personal use or as a gift that will be cherished for years to come.
