*Somenishiki* (or *Iro-Nabeshima*) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-step process: underglaze blue painting is followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; then, traditional colored enamels (such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied and fired again at 800°C. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves between four and ten separate firings. Originating around 1675, this style was initially developed to produce furnishings for castles and gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court; these techniques and traditions are preserved to this day.
*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style that builds upon the *Somenishiki* process—involving underglaze blue painting, glazing, and firing at 1,300°C, followed by the application of colored enamels and firing at 800°C—by adding gold accents to the design. As with *Somenishiki*, the piece is fired after the application of each color, requiring five to ten firings to complete a single work. It is a magnificent and dignified style that incorporates brilliant gold decoration alongside inventive color schemes and layouts.

Due to their rapid growth, bamboo and bamboo grass symbolize "growth" and "career advancement." Furthermore, because bamboo retains its green color even while enduring harsh winds, snow, and freezing cold, it is considered a symbol of longevity. Its dignified appearance has long been admired, making it a frequent motif in classic *Ko-Imari* and *Iro-Nabeshima* wares. Along with the orchid, plum blossom, and chrysanthemum, bamboo is revered as one of the "Four Gentlemen" (*Shikunshi*)—an auspicious pattern deeply loved in Japanese culture.
