All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage process: underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; overglaze painting using traditional Arita pigments (incorporating colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) followed by firing at 800°C; and finally, the application of gold patterns for decoration. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent and dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
**Butterfly (*Chō*)**
In Japanese, the word for "butterfly" (*chō*) shares the same pronunciation as the word for "long" (*chō*), thereby symbolizing longevity. Butterflies are also regarded as symbols of beauty due to the splendor of their wing shapes and colors, as well as the grace with which they grow and take flight; consequently, they have long been featured as motifs in paintings and crafts. In Arita ware, butterflies are frequently paired with flowers to create vibrant, decorative designs.
**Arabesque (*Karakusa*)**
The *karakusa* (arabesque) pattern depicts the intertwining vines of a plant. Arita ware features a wide variety of these patterns, including designs that combine vines with flowers, leaves, or fruit—such as chrysanthemum, peony, and paulownia arabesques—as well as the "octopus arabesque" (*tako-karakusa*), named for the resemblance of its swirling motifs to the suction cups on an octopus's tentacles. Appreciated by all for its perfected beauty as a traditional design, the arabesque motif appears frequently on Arita and Imari ware. Because the vines extend endlessly in all directions without interruption, the arabesque is considered a traditional auspicious pattern symbolizing longevity and prosperity.
