"Kinsai" (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage creation process. It begins with underglaze painting followed by firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional Arita colored enamels are applied and fired at 800°C; finally, gold accents are added to create intricate patterns. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the entire process involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent and dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.
Chrysanthemum (Kiku)
The chrysanthemum serves as the emblem of the Imperial Family. Renowned for its exquisite shape, color, and fragrance, it frequently appears as a motif in Old Imari and Iro-Nabeshima wares. Along with the orchid, plum blossom, and bamboo, it is known as one of the "Four Gentlemen" (Shikunshi) and is a deeply cherished auspicious symbol.
