*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita-yaki style characterized by a multi-stage firing process. It begins with underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional Arita colored enamels (such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied and fired at 800°C; finally, gold is used to add decorative patterns. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.

**Pine, Bamboo, and Plum (*Sho-chiku-bai*)**
The pine and bamboo, which retain their green foliage even amidst wind, snow, and bitter cold, and the plum, which blooms earlier than other plants, are revered as symbols of longevity, nobility, and purity. The pine represents evergreen steadfastness; the bamboo signifies integrity and noble character; and the plum is celebrated for its delicate fragrance and elegance. These motifs have long been used in a wide variety of decorative arts and ceramics; as gorgeous patterns suitable for celebrations, they are considered auspicious symbols of good fortune.

**Tortoise-shell Pattern (*Kikko-mon*)**
This is a geometric pattern of regular hexagons, named for its resemblance to the pattern on a tortoise's shell. The tortoise-shell pattern has a long history, appearing even among the treasures of the Shosoin Repository. Its perfected beauty as a traditional design appeals to everyone, and it is frequently depicted on Arita-yaki and Imari-yaki ceramics. The tortoise is a symbol of longevity, while the hexagonal shape—resembling a honeycomb structure known for incredible strength and stability—embodies wishes for eternal prosperity, making this an auspicious pattern.

**Folding Fan (*Ougi* / *Sensu*)**
The folding fan is considered a lucky object because, when opened, it spreads out into a fan shape that widens toward the edge—a form associated with "spreading prosperity" (*suehirogari*). In Arita-yaki and Imari-yaki designs, these fan shapes are often used as "window" panels (*madoe*) within which flowers, birds, and other motifs are painted. This is a traditional auspicious pattern featuring an elegant design that embodies the wish for enduring happiness.

*Seigaiha* (Blue Ocean Waves)
This is a geometric pattern consisting of wave motifs arranged in fan-like shapes and layered in an alternating fashion. Its perfected beauty as a traditional design has made it a universal favorite, frequently appearing on Iro-Nabeshima and Ko-Imari ceramics. It is an auspicious pattern that symbolizes a wish for a peaceful life to continue forever, much like the ceaseless waves rolling across the vast, boundless ocean.
