*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage creation process. It begins with underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; next, traditional Arita overglaze enamels (in colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied and fired at 800°C; finally, gold accents are added to create decorative patterns. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the entire process involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent, dignified style that combines brilliant gold decoration with inventive color schemes and layouts.
**Plum Blossom (*Ume*)**
Able to withstand the harsh winter and bloom before other plants, the plum blossom is considered a symbol of vitality. It is revered as an auspicious flower that brings the blessings of prosperous descendants and a long, harmonious life, and is also said to attract good fortune in relationships. It is a classic, celebratory motif that invites good luck.
**Blue Ocean Waves (*Seigaiha*)**
This is a geometric pattern featuring fan-shaped waves layered in an alternating arrangement. Its perfected beauty as a traditional design has made it universally popular, and it frequently appears on *Iro-Nabeshima* and *Ko-Imari* (Old Imari) wares. It is an auspicious motif embodying the wish for a peaceful life that continues forever—much like the ceaseless waves of the vast, boundless ocean.
