*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage process: underglaze painting followed by firing at 1,300°C; overglaze painting using traditional Arita pigments (incorporating colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) followed by firing at 800°C; and finally, the application of gold patterns for decoration. Because the piece is fired once for each color applied, the creation of a single work involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent and dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
Bamboo and Bamboo Grass
Due to their rapid growth, bamboo and bamboo grass symbolize "growth" and "career advancement." Furthermore, because bamboo retains its green color while withstanding harsh winds, snow, and freezing cold, it is regarded as a symbol of longevity. Its dignified appearance has long been admired, making it a frequent motif in Old Imari and Iro-Nabeshima wares. Along with the orchid, plum blossom, and chrysanthemum, bamboo is one of the "Four Gentlemen" (*Shikunshi*)—a group of auspicious motifs that are deeply cherished in Japanese art.
