"Kinsai" (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage firing process. The piece is first glazed and fired at 1,300°C, then painted with traditional Arita colored enamels—incorporating hues such as red, green, blue, and yellow—and fired again at 800°C. Finally, gold is applied to create decorative patterns. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the entire creation process involves five to ten separate firings. The result is a magnificent and dignified style that combines brilliant gold accents with inventive color schemes and layouts.
