therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Kinsai* (gold decoration) is a traditional Arita ware style characterized by a multi-stage process: underglaze painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; applying traditional Arita overglaze enamels (in colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) and firing again at 800°C; and finally adding gold patterns for decoration. It is a magnificent and dignified style that incorporates brilliant gold accents alongside inventive color schemes and layouts.
*Yūrikō* (underglaze red) is a technique that uses copper-based pigments for underglaze painting; by utilizing oxidation-reduction reactions during firing, a crimson hue is produced beneath a transparent glaze. While the origins of *yūrikō* date back to the late Yuan Dynasty in China (14th century), in the realm of Hizen porcelain, it was produced during the Early Imari period (1610–1650). However, the technique subsequently fell into decline because the firing process was difficult and the resulting colors were unstable. If the firing temperature rose too high, the piece would turn pure white instead of red; firing in an oxidizing atmosphere would result in green. Because the outcome depended heavily on the nature of the flames and even slight temperature variations could produce completely different colors, achieving consistent results was extremely difficult—so much so that there were countless instances where more than two-thirds of the pieces had to be discarded upon removal from the kiln.
The hydrangea is a flower native to Japan that grows in dense clusters from the base; its color shifts between purple, white, blue, and pink depending on soil conditions. Its radiant beauty has been celebrated in poetry—including in the *Man'yōshū*—and the flower appears as a motif in traditional arts such as Old Imari porcelain and *makie* lacquerware. With its clusters of four-petaled blossoms, the hydrangea is a flower rich in atmosphere and remains a highly popular decorative motif.
