The cherry blossom is so beloved that it is synonymous with Japanese flowers and serves as the nation's floral emblem. Its magnificent appearance has long inspired designs across a wide range of art forms, including paintings and handicrafts. The motif—depicting cherry blossoms in full bloom with petals gently fluttering down—is highly popular for the festive, elegant atmosphere it evokes.
"Somenishiki Platinum-sai" is a unique technique developed by Kinsai Fujii. It involves applying platinum accents to white porcelain that has already been fired at 1,300°C, followed by a final firing at 800°C to bond the platinum. The piece undergoes multiple firings—typically six to ten rounds—as each color is applied individually, with the platinum firing performed last. The platinum applied across the surface creates subtle nuances of light and shadow; its luster shifts depending on the angle of the light and the viewer's perspective, ensuring a constant, radiant sparkle. It is a luxurious style that fuses the traditions of Arita ware with a modern sensibility.
