All of our products are all handmade and hand painted by Master Fujii Kinsai,
therefore each individual item are slightly different each other.
*Somenishiki* (Underglaze Blue and Overglaze Enamel) is a traditional Arita ware style. The process begins with underglaze blue painting followed by glazing and firing at 1,300°C; subsequently, traditional Arita overglaze enamels (in colors such as red, green, blue, and yellow) are applied, and the piece is fired again at 800°C. Because the piece is fired after the application of each color, the creation of a single work involves between four and ten separate firings. *Somenishiki*—specifically the *Iro-Nabeshima* (Colored Nabeshima) style—originated around 1675, initially produced for castle furnishings and as gifts for the Shogunate, feudal lords, and the Imperial Court. These techniques and traditions continue to be passed down to the present day.
**Swallow (*Tsubame*)**
Swallows are familiar birds, often known for building their nests under the eaves of houses. It is said that a swallow nesting under one's eaves brings good fortune and family prosperity; consequently, swallow motifs have long been cherished and used in a wide variety of arts, including *makie* (gold lacquerwork) and ceramics. Their cute appearance and the modern appeal of the design make the swallow a highly popular auspicious motif.
**Wisteria (*Fuji*)**
Wisteria is a tree that grows wild in the mountains and fields, producing beautiful blossoms. It frequently appears in classical literature and—having been adopted for the surname and family crest of the Fujiwara clan during the Heian period—has significantly influenced Japanese culture. Its graceful floral appearance has long been admired, leading to its frequent depiction on ceramics, *makie*, and lacquerware. With its elegance and refinement, the wisteria remains a highly popular motif today.
**Blue Ocean Waves (*Seigaiha*)**
This is a geometric pattern consisting of fan-shaped waves layered in an alternating arrangement. Its perfected beauty as a traditional pattern appeals to everyone, and it has frequently appeared in *Iro-Nabeshima* and *Ko-Imari* (Old Imari) wares. It is an auspicious motif that embodies the wish for a peaceful life to continue forever, much like the ceaseless waves of the vast, unending ocean.
